Tokyo Tech provides foreign researchers with the International House. This dormitory, located just beside the Ookayama campus, has 73 single rooms, 15 rooms for couples and 12 rooms for families.

Please be reminded that the International House is a dormitory and NOT A HOTEL. Reservation and billing procedures and services provided differ from those of hotels. You'll find the detailed information below.

Qualifications

Applicants must be a foreign researcher who needs to be engaged in education or research in Tokyo Tech and his/her family (a spouse and children).


Reservation Procedures

<For applicants>
Reservations can be made only by professors and supervisors at Tokyo Tech. In order to apply for a room at the International House, an applicant must first contact his/her host researcher.

<For host researchers>
Please first call the International House Office to check for availability. If a room is available as requested, the Office will issue a receipt number. Then, please submit an application form to the Director of the International House within one week after issuance of the receipt number.

Please have the following information ready when calling:

Name; department/major; extension number; and campus mail box number
(About room)
Desired room type and length of stay
(About applicant)
Name; nationality; sex; and status/position title (i.e. visiting researcher)

Application Acceptance:

Foreign researchers engaged in research at Tokyo Tech:

1) Applications for long-term stay (1 month to 1 year*)
→accepted 6 months prior to the desired start date of occupancy
2) Applications for short-term stay (8 days or longer but less than 1 month)
→ accepted 3 months prior to the desired start date of occupancy.

* Period of occupancy for Couple and Family rooms can be extended for up to two years.

*After the Notification of Admission has been issued but before moving in.
<Re-application>
Once cancelled, re-application will be accepted after the one-month waiting period and the earliest possible reservation at that point will be in 1 month. (In other words, the earliest possible reservation one can make will be in 2 months from the date of which cancellation of the previous reservation has taken place.)
NOTE: Applicants will be charged for the full amount of rent to cover the originally accepted period if they have failed to take the proper procedure for changing the start date or cancellation.
2. Changing the end date
No change in the period of occupancy is accepted in principle.
However, exceptional circumstances might be duly considered upon request to allow residents to leave before or after the end of the originally accepted occupancy period as specified in the Notification of Admission. The request will be examined and the rent can be recalculated depending on the decision.
Please consult the International House Office as soon as possibilities for changes in the end date arise as any changes are subject to availability.
To be considered, certain conditions apply:

The requester must be a long-term resident of 2 months or longer
How to apply?
The "Request Form" is to be filled out and submitted to the International House Office (campus mail box #: IH) by the requester's host researcher. The form is available at the Office.
When to apply?
"The Request Form" must be received by the Office by 5pm, the 15th of the month prior to the end month of one's occupancy period.

Unit for married couple

Area: 39 square meters
Major facilities: air conditioners (2), gas water heater, beds (2), alarm clock, desk and chair, bookshelf, wardrobe, chest of drawers, sink, gas stove, dining table and chairs, hot-water pot, microwave, cupboard, refrigerator, washing machine, vacuum cleaner, steam iron, television, easy chairs (2), bath unit, toilet.

Unit for family

Area: 56 square meters
Major facilities: air conditioners (3), gas water heater, beds (2), double bunk beds (for children), desk and chair, bookshelves (2), closets (2), wardrobe, chests of drawers (2), sink, gas stove, dining table and chairs, hot-water pot, microwave, cupboard, refrigerator, washing and drying machine, vacuum cleaner, steam iron, television, easy chairs (2), bath unit, toilet.

Common facilities

Internet connection

The rooms of the International House are equipped with the necessary infrastructure for Internet connection of up to 100Mbps. In order to use the Internet, the researcher must first apply for the connection. Internet usage fees are included in the rental fees described next.

Rental fees

Rent and charges for using the facilities of the Residential Buildings are indicated below: Please make payments as instructed by the Office. Rent and charges are subject to change without notice.
*Advanced payment of rent is required based on the table below.
*The payment is not refundable once it is made under any circumstances.

1. Rent

(1) Short-term residence (For eight days or more, and less than one month)

A resident shall pay the daily amount multiplied by the number of days he/she resides and the Entrance Fee listed below. All fees shall be charged in a lump sum at the time of moving in.

(2) Long-term residence (For one month or more)

A resident shall pay the rent according to the table below. The amount of rent to be paid by a resident who moves into or out of the International House in the middle of the month shall be the daily amount multiplied by the number of days he/she resides.

NOTE: When moving from one room to another within the International House, the daily rent will be charged for respective rooms for the moving day.


2. Utility Fees

Charges for electricity, water and gas within the basic consumption regulated by the Director are included in the aforesaid rent.
Please be aware that exceeded consumption per month shall be paid by the resident additionally.

(1) Method of Payment

Rent and fees should be paid through money transfer service to specified accounts at Mitsui Sumitomo Bank.
The account numbers for this service vary according to the room and the months of the year.
Long-term residents can have administrative assistance on this matter.
Additional fees for this transfer service may be charged, depending on where the deposit is made.

(2) Time of Payment

In case of moving in after the 16th of the month, rent for the initial month and following month shall be charged from the first day of occupancy.

(1) Luggage keeping
*Please be advised that no luggage keeping service is provided by the International House Office for we are unable to ensure its safety.

<Before moving in>
Please arrange your luggage to arrive at your room after your arrival at the International House if you need to send it before you leave your country.
