Tokyo International Exchange Center

Tokyo International Exchange Center (TIEC) is a residence in Odaiba district mainly for students, which also accepts researchers when there is availability.

The following rent amounts and eligibility requirements are those specific to researchers.

Room Types

  • Single Rooms
    (Type A) 62,000 yen per month
    (Type B) 78,000 yen per month
  • Couple/Family Rooms
    (Type C) 112,000 yen per month
    (Type D) 129,500 yen per month

Access

  • 3 minutes walk from Tokyo International Cruise Terminal station on Yurikamome line
  • 15 minutes walk from Tokyo Teleport station on Rinkai line
  • 30 minutes by train to Ookayama
  • 75 minutes by train to Suzukakedai

Eligibility

[Foreign Researchers] [Japanese Researchers]
Those who can currently apply through Institute of Science Tokyo must satisfy all of the following conditions:

    1. Be a researcher affiliated with Institute of Science Tokyo. (Excluding full-time employees of research institutions in Japan)
    2. Hold a doctoral degree at the start of residency and have obtained the degree within the last 8 years.
    3. [Foreign Researchers] Must generally hold a residence status of “Professor,” “Research,” or “Cultural Activities” as defined by the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act.
    4. [Japanese Researchers] Must hold Japanese nationality or a residence status of Permanent Resident under the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act, or Special Permanent Resident as defined by special laws.

(Note 1) Only those staying for 30 days or more are eligible.
(Note 2) Residency is possible starting 30 days prior to the commencement of affiliation.
(Note 3) Individuals currently on leave of absence or planning to take leave after moving in are ineligible to apply.

■ Application Procedure

Researchers affiliated with Institute of Science Tokyo (both international and Japanese) who wish to apply for residency should first review the eligibility requirements and conditions outlined in the application guidelines. Please contact the International Affairs Office via email (st.housing@adm.isct.ac.jp) and upload the required documents. After review by our office, we will submit your application to the relevant institution with a letter of recommendation.

• Subject line: “TIEC Residence Application (and applicant’s name)”
• Send applicant’s (1) affiliation, (2) name, (3) status at Science Tokyo, (4) contract period at Science Tokyo, (5) desired period of residence, (6) expected number of residents, and (7) expected submission date of application documents.
