Period of Residence

International researchers engaged in education or research at Science Tokyo

One month to one year

Please note the following exceptions:

  • Full-time faculty may reside for up to two months, if all the conditions are met.
  • Doctoral students from educational or research institutes outside of Japan wishing to reside in the International House while they conduct research at the Institute must have a status such as Visiting Junior Fellow status.
International researchers engaged in education or research at other research institutes  One month to three months, only when units are available.

Note: A resident’s period of residence will begin up to three days prior to, and end up to three days after, the resident’s education or research period at the Institute.
For example, for those with an education or research period of April 1 through June 15, their period of residence will be March 29 to June 18 at the longest. The first and last three days are expected to be used for moving in/out and settling.

Application Period

For efficient management of the International House, the application submission period is set according to the purpose and the period of stay.

  • 6 months prior to the desired move-in date
International researchers at Science Tokyo
(Full-time faculty)
  • 2 months prior to the desired move-in date
International researchers in other national universities
  • 1 month prior to the desired move-in date

Reservation requests must be made at least one month prior to the desired move-in date. As explained in the Application and Move-in Procedures on this website, applicants must first submit a designated reservation form and be issued a receipt number. For more immediate requests, please inquire with the International House Office.
